You have a jar with a single bacterium, named Jim. It happens to be a fairly harmless bacterium. It duplicates at a constant rate every 10 minutes. Every 20 minutes the bacteria, which have been attending bacteria school, learn how to increase their rate of duplicity by 50%.
Assuming you leave your bacterium in the jar alone for 1 hour, how many bacteria do you have?
